Hi there,
I'm Lindsay Donaghe.
... a geeky girl making her way to the Singularity.
This site is a collection of pieces of me.
I've gathered some of them here to share with you since you dropped by. Pull up a chair, sit a while, and learn a little more about me.10 things you should probably know about me:
- I was born and raised in Mississippi (yes, that's where the accent comes from).
- I transplanted to sunny Phoenix, Arizona, by way of humid Louisiana and blessed-with-all-four-seasons North Carolina.
- My first real job at the age of 15 was creating a database application in dBase IV to collect, analyze and report on census data for the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development Resources Library.
- I majored in Computer Science at LSU while working full time as a programmer.
- I am married to a wonderful, equally geeky husband and mother to a budding geeky teenage son.
- I am owned by an umbrella cockatoo, cockatiel, golden retriever and shihtzu/poodle mix.
- I have trained Aikido for 7+ years, and teach the kids' classes at my dojo.
- I am an avid amateur photographer who spends inordinate amounts of time in Photoshop.
- I spend about 75% of my day in front of a computer... voluntarily.
- My favorite color: purple
My Life Online
I live a fairly active virtual life. Here is a collection of sites that I have either created,
contributed to, or participate in. Feel free to follow me!
- Google+
- Where I spend most of my online social time of late.
- FriendFeed
- Where I used to spend all of my online social time.
- I have an account because I got one before it was cool to have one but, honestly, expressing myself well in 140 characters is a talent that I have not cultivated.
- My work history, for all to see.
- I have an account because that's how old high school and work mates find me. Otherwise, I find Facebook cluttered and frustrating. Maybe the new timeline will change my mind...
- Pintrest
- Love this site! I wish Google would just buy them up already and incorporate their sharing tools/model into G+.
- Flickr
- Where I put most of my photos online, even if it's no longer the photography hotness.
- DeviantArt
- Still a newbie here, but starting to put some of my artwork up.
- Squidoo
- I have a few lenses on fashion and crafting topics.
- Colour Lovers
- I can get absorbed into this site for days creating new palettes.
Designer, Developer, UI Evangelist
A short-list of current proficiencies include HTML(5), CSS(3), Javascript, jQuery, C#,
ASP.Net MVC, User Interface design, new feature and enhancement generation, Adobe Photoshop, and a good eye for clean, simple design.
Besides 17+ years experience in software development in general,
I have worked in web development and design for the last 12. User Interface is my passion.
I love building beautiful, usable, elegant things.
My ideal job is one where I have the chance to be creative as well as use my coding and development skills. Several of my favorite projects below are small websites which allow me to do things on "both sides of the fence" and that makes me happy.
- JoyLi.net for Studio Joy Li
-
- Project Type
- Website
- Contributions
- Site design, all code, all graphic editing and design
- Skills/Tech
- HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Photoshop
This website is the primary online presence for the fashion designer Joy Li to promote her clothing lines as well as her retail store. Updated with each season's line, I do all the editing from the stock photos and redesign the home page to best show off the new line's photos. - AikidoOfScottsdale.com for Aikido of Scottsdale
-
- Project Type
- Website

- Skills/Tech
- HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Photoshop, photograpy
This website is the primary online presence for Aikido of Scottsdale, of which I have been a member in training for more than 7 years. Besides building the site, I also had the opportunity to provide almost all of the photography that is used on the site from my collection of photos taken during seminars and other dojo events. - Retail Solution for Microsoft Surface for Accenture and Avanade
-
- Project Type
- Microsoft Surface application
- Contributions
- UX guidance, all graphic design and some code
- Skills/Tech
- Photoshop, Illustrator, C#, Expression Blend, XAML, Surface SDK, Windows Presentation Framework
This project was a joint venture as a proof of concept for ways a retail buisiness might use the Microsoft Surface to enhance a shopper's experience in the store. I was brought in as the UX lead and graphic designer, but I also did some code in XAML and WPF for implementation. It was a great experience before Microsoft Surface had officially been released to public venues and I was able to work directly with the Microsoft UX teams to help refine some of the UI conventions still in use today. - ValleyOfTheSunDogRescue.org for Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue
-
- Project Type
- Website
- Contributions
- Site design, some code, all graphic editing and design
- Skills/Tech
- ASP.Net MVC, C#, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Photoshop
This website is the primary online presence for the dog rescue. It was built as part of a team effort for AZ Give Camp, a semi-annual event for technical people to volunteer their skills to build websites for non-profits over the course of a weekend. I am responsible for all design and graphic editing as well as a good bit of the client side code and some of the server side as well. My team, Alec Ruderman, Jacob Page and Dominic Tuso, and I managed to pull all this together in about 24 cumulative hours (I had a little head start with some of the graphics) and the site has attracted and informed thousands of visitors and generated a significant increase in attendance at the rescue's adoption events since release. It is a real win for the rescue! - Blog.DiscoveringStyle.com for myself

All the graphics and photography are also my creation. - InstantPage for GoDaddy.com

- Skills/Tech
- ASP.Net MVC, C#, HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, jQuery Widget Factory, NewtonSoft JSON.Net
Please click on each thumbnail above to see an example of the product in use with some of my own graphics and information. I developed the prototype for the application including the database layer, the middle tier (in ASP.Net MVC) and the client side HTML, CSS and Javascript. I was also worked closely with the UX team to come up with the visitor side layouts and admin side design controls and functionality. Once the prototype was approved I was an integral member of the team that brought the app to production. It is available as a free product when you buy any domain and is currently used by more than half a million customers. - StudioGurus.com for Studio Gurus

-
- Project Type
- Demo Website
- Contributions
- Site design, all code

- HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, Modernizr
A companion demo website for a HTML5 technical presentation I gave at the 2011 Go Daddy TechFest, a semi-annual one day conference for the development and technical employees of Go Daddy with sessions on a variety of topics. This website, while not a great example of my design skills, is a useful tool to see quickly the HTML5 capabilities in whatever browser it is run in. It is still in progress to provide samples for all the capabilities.
Photos I Take and Art I Make
I have always been fascinated with patterns and abstractions. Most of my photography is macros of interesting textures or unusual perspectives of normal things. I also spend a lot of time editing my photos in Photoshop and occasionally I like to create mandals from some of them. Even more occasionally I can create some art from scratch. One day I would like to be able to focus on creating artworks more frequently.
